Assistant Professor Knut Beitzel, M.D., M.A.
Is a specialist in orthopedics and traumatology and works as a consulting orthopedic surgeon at the Department for Orthopaedic Sportsmedicine at the University Hospital Rechts der Isar, Munich, Germany. Prior to his appointment to the faculty, he spent one year as a research fellow in the field of sports orthopedics at the University of Connecticut (Farmington, USA). Dr. Beitzel obtained both of his degrees in Medicine (MD) and his Master in Sports Science from the University of Bonn, Germany.
He is a member of the following professional associations: International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA), the Association for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery (AGA), the German Association for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (DVSE), the German Association for Sports Medicine and Preventive Medicine (DGSP), German-Austrian-Swiss Association for Orthopedic-Traumatological Sports Medicine (GOTS). He serves as a member for the shoulder committee of the ISAKOS as well as the AGA.
His research interest focus on topics related to shoulder- and knee surgery as well as biologic methods for healing improvements. He has authored and coauthored multiple internationally published articles and book chapters. He is member of the Editorial Board for the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine and BMC Musculoskeletal. He is a member of the Reviewer´s board for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and KSSTA. In 2013, he and Prof. A. B. Imhoff received the AGA medi Award for his paper entitled “Structural and Biomechanical Changes in Shoulders of Junior Javelin Throwers – A Multimodal Evaluation as a Proof of Concept for a Preventive Exercise Protocol”.
